Fincher Leaves Steve Jobs Film After Fee Row

David Fincher has reportedly dropped out of directing the new Steve Jobs biopic after a row over fees.

The Hollywood Reporter claims Sony Pictures is looking to replace The Social Network director after he demanded $10m (£6m) up front, as well as control over marketing.

Fincher was due to team up with The Social Network's Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin and producer Scott Rudin again.

But The Hollywood Reporter quoted sources to the studio saying the compensation requested by Fincher was "ridiculous", adding: "You're not doing Transformers here. You're not doing Captain America. This is quality - it's not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front."

Fincher may not be entirely out of the running but further negotiations are expected to take place.

The screenplay is based on the biography about the Apple co-founder by Walter Isaacson.

Jobs is credited with transforming the technology industry from computers to smartphones and music.

He died from pancreatic cancer aged 56 in October 2011.

It is believed Fincher had wanted Christian Bale to take on the role of Jobs but the actor is not currently being associated with the film.

It is not the first film to be made about the pioneer - Ashton Kutcher portrayed him in the 2011 film, Jobs.

Fincher has just completed Gone Girl with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike which will be released in October.
