24 and Happy Endings star Elisha Cuthbert features in our first look at creepy new horror movie The Cellar in a new image.

It has been confirmed that Shudder, the dedicated streaming service for horror, thriller and supernatural movies, will stream the movie from April 15, following its upcoming world premiere at SXSW Film Festival.

The Cellar will introduce Keira Woods (Cuthbert), a woman whose daughter mysteriously and suddenly vanishes in the cellar of their new house in the country.

The official synopsis of the movie reads: "Keira soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family's souls forever."

She certainly looks rather concerned in the movie's first-look image, which sees her holding up a torch in the dark and looking shocked as she tries to protect a child behind her.

The movie, which was filmed in Ireland, also stars Merlin and The Night Shift actor Eoin Macken and Hidden Assets star Aaron Monaghan.

It comes from writer and director Brendan Muldowney, who has spoken about how pleased he is to have worked on the movie.

"Ever since we made the short film The Ten Steps, which The Cellar is based on, I have seen the profound effect and power it has had on audiences," he said. "I am really excited to be working with Shudder and RLJE Films in bringing this feature-length version of the nightmare to a wider audience."

Craig Engler, GM of Shudder, has also praised the "riveting story" of The Cellar, which Shudder feels will "appeal to both horror lovers and broader audiences alike".

"Brendan and this talented team have crafted a dark and haunting tale that we're excited to share with audiences this April," he said.

The Cellar will arrive on Shudder in North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand on April 15, while it will also receive a theatrical release in the US through RLJE Films.
