Jason Momoa stars in the first look image from his new Netflix movie Sweet Girl.

Directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza – who has previously worked with the Aquaman star on titles such as Frontier, Road to Paloma and Braven – the revenge thriller sees Momoa take on the role of Cooper, a widowed man struggling to get his life back on track following the death of his wife.

Lost in his grief, he vows to see the people responsible brought to justice – by any means necessary – while also making sure nothing happens to his daughter Rachel (Dora and the Lost City of Gold's Isabela Merced).

Sweet Girl marks the first of two upcoming projects starring Momoa to launch on the streaming service.

Next year, he'll be seen in Slumberland, which follows a young girl and an eccentric outlaw as they set out on a journey across a fantastical dreamworld in the hopes of reuniting the former with her late father.

Marlow Barkley, Weruche Opia, India de Beaufort, Chris O'Dowd and Kyle Chandler round out that film's cast.

Sweet Girl will be released on Netflix on August 20.
