First look at Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in Wicked movie adaptation
Wicked fans will be delighted to see new first-look pictures from the upcoming movie adaptation.
Based on the long-running West End and Broadway musical, the two-part movie series will star Ariana Grande as Glinda – the Good Witch – and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba aka The Wicked Witch of the West.
Featuring huge songs such as 'Defying Gravity', 'Popular' and 'As Long as You're Mine', the movie adaptation has been in the works for years, and many fans never thought this day would come.
Both actresses posted the pictures to their respective Instagram accounts, but neither have captioned them with any additional information.
Glinda is wearing a beautiful pink dress and Elphaba – complete with her green face – can be seen holding her broomstick, but they don't give much else away.
The main characters are in good hands. Grande has the singing skills for the big songs and she dipped her toe into musical theatre with a role as Penny Pingleton in the live TV special of Hairspray!.
Meanwhile Erivo has won a Grammy Award and a Tony Award for the Broadway revival of The Color Purple musical.
Alongside Grande and Erivo in the lead roles, the movie also stars Jurassic World's Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Everything Everywhere All At Once's Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar.
Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, Aaron Teoh and Colin Michael Carmichael also feature.
The movies have been written by Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, who both worked on the stage musical, which was an adaptation of the 1995 novel from author Gregory Maguire, based on characters from the original story by L Frank Baum.
Wicked: Part One is set to be released on November 27, 2024, with Wicked: Part Two expected to follow on December 25, 2025.
