First Look At Bridget Jones’s Baby

Renee Zellweger returns as Bridget Jones… but this time, she’s not alone.

‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ began filming in October… just 11 years after the release of the last film, ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’. And while Zellweger gets to dust off her British accent once more, there’s a lot more at stake this time around.

After all, she’ll soon be entering the crazy world of motherhood.

And thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we’ve got our first look at the upcoming ‘Bridget Jones’ sequel.

Based on the ‘Bridget Jones’ series of novels by British writer Helen Fielding, ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ sees everyone’s favourite awkward singleton becoming a mother. But there’s just one problem – she’s not entirely sure who the father might be.

“There are various mysteries to be resolved,” says returning favourite, Colin Firth. “Who does she end up with? Whose baby is it? You can resolve one and make the other a question. Those are things which might not be revealed until very later on. I rather like it. It’s not often you have something where you have the possibility of keeping a surprise.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be ‘Bridget Jones’ without a love rival… and this time sound, it’s the wonderful Patrick Dempsey in an all-new role.

“He’s a very different kind of rival,” Firth said of Dempsey’s new character. “He’s not somebody I’ve known since we were kids. He’s an outsider and he threatens Mark Darcy in a very, very different way than Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) did.”

And things are even more tense with a baby in the mix…

“This is part of the new challenge, discovering where Bridget is now in her new life,” said Zellweger. But while Bridget now has a lot more responsibility in her life, some things never change – she still suffers from a spot of man trouble.

“I think that’s her essence really, isn’t it?” Zellweger explained. “All of us do things in our personalities that we don’t outgrow.”

Of course, for Bridget, that means the return of her rather klutzy, awkward personality as well as the inability to sort out her love life once and for all. But Colin Firth explains that might just be part of her charm. At least, as far as Darcy is concerned.

“He’s known her since she was a child and I don’t think he loves her because there’s a reason to,” says Firth. “I just think he does. In fact there’s a scene in this film where it says something along those lines, that it defies logic.”

But will the baby issue prove too much for Darcy?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… either way, it looks like another awkward instalment of the ‘Bridget Jones’ saga.

And it might even lead to fisticuffs once again.
