First look at new Cinderella reboot

Kenneth Branagh has cast Downton's Lily James in the lead.

Disney has released the first look at its reboot of 'Cinderella'.

The movie, being directed by British thesp Kenneth Branagh, has recently started shooting in London and at Pinewood Studios, and this equestrian-themed snap is the first image of 'Downton Abbey's Lily James in the lead role.

It's Disney's first ever live-action retelling of the Cinderella story.

James stars opposite 'Game of Thrones' star Richard Madden as the prince, Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother.

James, who plays Lady Rose MacClare in 'Downton', is Ella, whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother.

When her father also dies, she is left alone and at the mercy of a cruel new family, but remains determined to honour the dying words of her late mother 'to have courage and be kind'.

Said 'Thor' director Branagh of his casting: “It is impossible to think of Cinderella without thinking of Disney and the timeless images we’ve all grown up watching. And those classic moments are irresistible to a filmmaker.

“With Lily James we have found our perfect Cinderella. She combines knockout beauty with intelligence, wit, fun and physical grace.

“Her Prince is being played by Richard Madden, a young actor with incredible power and charisma. He is funny, smart and sexy and a great match for Cinderella.”

There are also roles in the movie for Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera as Cinderella's stepsisters, Stellan Skarsgard as the Grand Duke and Derek Jacobi as the King.

It's due out on March 13, 2015.
