First Look At Star Wars: Rogue One

It’s official – we’ve finally got our first look at ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’… along with a full reveal of its star-studded cast.

Announced today at Lucasfilm’s D23 Expo, ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ has begun principal photography… and that’s not all – the first ‘Star Wars’ spin-off has been given a bit of a makeover – renamed as ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.

Of course, there was also the small matter of the film’s cast – most of which has been rumoured over the past few months. But it’s now confirmed that Felicity Jones will be joined on-screen by Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Riz Ahmed.

And it looks as though Alan Tudyk will be joining them in a motion-capture role.

Best of all, Lucasfilm gave us our first glimpse at the star-studded cast with the above image - an awesome glimpse of Jones with her very own ‘Star Wars’ dirty dozen… including Ahmed, Luna, Jiang Wen and Donnie Yen.

“Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope,” said Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy. “[It] will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe. It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for Rogue One.”

Of course, the plot of ‘Rogue One’ has been confirmed for some time – following a group of resistance fighters who attempt to steal the original Death Star plans for the Rebel Alliance.

‘Rogue One’ will be directed by Gareth Edwards… and his full crew has finally been revealed.

Greig Fraser (Zero Dark Thirty, Foxcatcher) will be director of photography with Neil Corbould (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan) as head of special effects. Doug Chiang (Star Wars: Episodes I-II, Forrest Gump) and Neil Lamont (supervising art director for the Harry Potter series, Edge of Tomorrow) are on board as production designers with Rob Inch as stunt supervisor. Creature effects will be handled by Neal Scanlan with Dave Crossman and Glyn Dillon as costume supervisors.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
