First Look at X-Men’s Professor X in Logan

It looks as though Professor X hasn’t aged well…

Following the official announcement that the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ movie is called ‘Logan’ it seems we’ve got our first look at the latest incarnation of Charles Xavier - otherwise known as Professor X.

But the years haven’t been kind.

Taking to Twitter, director James Mangold revealed this haunting image of ‘X-Men’ powerhouse, Professor X (played by Patrick Stewart).

“Taken w/ Leica S 007 Summicron 100mm, ISO 3200 1/250 ƒ3.4 – by JM”

If you’re wondering what those numbers are, it’s technical information about how the photograph was shot… stuff that photography geeks will really appreciate. And it seems to have been taken by James Mangold himself.

But what’s happened to Professor X?

According to The Wrap, the ‘Wolverine’ sequel takes place in 2024… and our favourite X-Men have seen better days.

“The film is dark. Darker than any other Wolverine’ or ‘X-Men’ movie,” they revealed.

“Old Man Logan is in full effect. Logan looks bad, and drinks a lot. For work, he drives a 2024 Chrysler 300 limo that looks modified in the front to look more futuristic. He’s sick, his powers are fading, and he heals much more slowly — and sometimes not at all.”

As for Professor X, the future looks just as bleak.

“Professor X (Patrick Stewart) is old and not well,” they explain. “His powers are unstable and at times he doesn’t even remember Logan. Stephen Merchant plays the Albino mutant Caliban, who helps Logan take care of Professor X.”

Intriguing stuff, and it certainly looks as though ‘Logan’ is going to be the darkest ‘X-Men’ movie to date. But for now, we have to wait and see.

‘Logan’ stars Hugh Jackman as the iconic mutant, Wolverine. He’s joined by Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook and Eriq La Salle.

James Mangold directed ‘Logan’ based on a screenplay by Michael Green and David James Kelly.

‘Logan’ heads to cinemas on 2 March 2017.
