Eddie Murphy returns as King Akeem in next year's Coming 2 America – and we've now got our first look at Murphy's comeback.
The highly-anticipated comedy sequel sees King Akeem (Murphy) heading on an all-new adventure that takes him and his trusted confidante (Arsenio Hall) back to where it all began – Queens, New York.
It was confirmed last month that Coming 2 America would be skipping cinemas after it was picked up by Amazon Studios. The sequel will launch worldwide on Prime Video on March 5, 2021 in more than 240 countries and territories.
Coming 2 America also sees James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos and Louie Anderson reprise their roles from the 1988 comedy hit, with writers Barry W Blaustein and David Sheffield returning as well to co-write with Kenya Barris.
"My favouite part of reuniting with the cast of Coming to America was making a movie that's as good as the first one. Getting everybody together... and making a really great movie, that’s my favourite part," enthused Murphy.
The sequel's cast is rounded out by Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, KiKi Layne, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, Nomzamo Mbatha and Teyana Taylor.
Murphy praised the "incredible" newcomers to the cast who "really brought their A-game", adding: "It's just a great picture and I'm excited to have audiences see it.
"This is the perfect time to return to Zamunda because it’s been a while since we’ve had a great comedy that everybody can enjoy. Zamunda is a very funny place, and the world needs that right now."
Coming 2 America will be released on Prime Video on March 5, 2021.
