First Look at Joseph Gordon-Levitt in ‘Snowden’

Open Road has released the first photo of star Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone’s upcoming thriller, “Snowden.”

In the first look image below, before he was a whistle-blower, Edward was an ordinary man who unquestioningly served his country. The pic is currently shooting in Munich, before moving on to locations around the world. Open Road Films will release “Snowden” in the U.S. on December 25, 2015.

Rounding out the cast alongside Gordon-Levitt are Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Olyphant, Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson.

Open Road has U.S. distribution rights. Pathé Films, which developed the project with Stone’s producing partner Moritz Borman, has retained distribution rights for France and Benelux. Wild Bunch will handle international sales in all other territories.

Borman is producing with Eric Kopeloff and Philip Schulz-Deyle. Stone directs from a script he co-wrote with Kieran Fitzgerald, based on Luke Harding’s “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man” and “Time of the Octopus,” by Snowden’s Russian lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena.

Last month, Laura Poitras’ Snowden doc “Citizenfour” won Best Documentary at the Academy Awards.
