First Pics From Tim Burton’s Latest, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Director Tim Burton doesn’t seem to have strayed too far from his usual aesthetic on his next feature, ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.’

Whilst the ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ director’s last film, ‘Big Eyes,’ was a step in a more grounded direction, his next looks to be a return to what he does best: fairy tales with a Gothic twist.

Now, courtesy of Empire and Entertainment Weekly, we have our first look at the movie. Based on the book by Ransom Riggs, it has been adapted for the screen by Jane Goldman (’Stardust,’ ‘Kick-Ass,’ ‘Kingsman’).

We see Eva Gereen - reuniting with Burton after ‘Dark Shadows’ - in the title role as headmistress Miss Peregrine, who Burton describes as a “weird Mary Poppins like character—a strong and mysterious person who looks like she could turn into a bird. That’s Eva.”

Judi Dench co-stars as Miss Avocet, head of another school.

Heading up the cast of allegedly peculiar children we have Asa Butterfield, the ‘Ender’s Game’ actor who famously came close to being the next Spider-Man (before fellow Brit Tom Holland landed the role).

Butterfield stars as Jake, a traumatised teen who sets out to visit the orphanage that once housed his grandfather - and discovers it is a doorway to another world, home to people with extraordinary powers .

The big-name supporting cast includes Samuel L Jackson, Terrence Stamp, Allison Janney, Chris O’Dowd and Rupert Everett.

‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ opens in the US this September: no UK release date has been confirmed yet.
