The first photos of Javier Bardem as the new ‘Bond’ villain have been snapped on the set of ‘Skyfall’ in London.

The scary actor is bizarrely wearing full British Metropolitan police garb, as well as (what we think is) a blonde wig, which fans reckon is a disguise.

He is surrounded by coppers carrying machine guns in some of the other photos.

The shoot is taking place in Whitehall, close (we assume) to MI6 headquarters, before moving off to Turkey in the next few weeks.

Little is known about Bardem’s character so far, but clues about the scene snapped here may be found in the official synopsis.

It mentions how “MI6” comes under attack”, with Bond having to “track down and destroy the threat” - is this what we're seeing here?

Fans have high hopes for Bardem's villain after Mathieu Amalric’s disappointingly weedy antagonist in previous 007 flick ‘Quantum of Solace’.

One thing’s for sure, Bardem has form when it comes to wigs – the last time he played a bad guy with a hair piece he won an Oscar, for ‘No Country for Old Men’.

'Skyfall' stars Bardem, Daniel Craig,  Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe and Ben Whishaw.

'Skyfall' is released in the UK on 26 October 2012.
