The first picture of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana is here

From Harper's BAZAAR

The first picture of Kristen Stewart as the late Princess of Wales has been revealed ahead of a forthcoming biopic made about the royal. The actress looks strikingly similar to Diana in the image which was shared by the film's production company, Neon Rated.

She is seen wearing a black pussy bow blouse, black hat and red jacket, a combination that feels true to Diana's '80s look. Stewart is seen looking mournfully out a window, replicating the royal's innocent wide-eyed look.

Spencer, which is now being filmed in Germany, takes place over the course of three days in which Diana decides to separate from her husband. The cast also includes Timothy Spall, Sean Harris and Sally Hawkins and the film is expected to be released in autumn this year.

“‘Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life,” said Stewart in a statement. “It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name: Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her.”

In November 2020, Stewart told Jimmy Kimmel that she felt "protective" of Diana. "She was so young... everyone's perspective is different, and there's no way to get everything right... what is fact in relation to personal experience."

Interest in the princess has been reignited over the past few months with Netflix's fourth season of The Crown, which explores the tumultuous relationship between Diana and Prince Charles. The show has been criticised by senior royals who were angered by its "cruel and unfair" depiction of the events that led to the breakdown of the Wales' marriage.
