Roald Dahl's The Witches has received the remake treatment, and now Robert Zemeckis' take on the classic children's story is almost here. Well, it is officially spooky season.
In a surprise move, the new adaptation is heading to HBO Max in the US later this month, but will still be released in cinemas in the UK. It stars Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch, a role made equal-parts iconic and terrifying by Anjelica Huston in the original.
The movie also stars Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, Chris Rock and newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, with Zemeckis and Kenya Barris adapting Dahl's novel for the screen.
We're certainly excited to see Anne's take on the worst witch of them all, but let's face it, we're all waiting to see what she looks like underneath that glamorous façade.
Opening up about the amount of work behind her bringing her character to life, Anne told People that the Grand High Witch was a "total collaboration" between various on-set departments.
"[She] was a total collaboration between costumes, hair and make-up, the writers, my dialect coach, the effects department, stunts, [director] Bob Zemeckis and myself," she explained.
"She is such a weirdo – so silly and over the top – and everyone had to work together to be on the same page so it felt big and entertaining but never too much."
Roald Dahl's The Witches will be available to stream on HBO Max from October 22. Its UK release date is not yet confirmed.
