Universal and Blumhouse have released the first trailer for The Exorcist: Believer - part one of its Exorcist reboot trilogy from Halloween Kills director David Gordon Green.

As well as the brand new trailer for Believer, its sequel titled The Exorcist: Deceiver received a release date and will be hitting screens on April 18, 2025.

Following on from William Friedkin's 1973 horror classic The Exorcist, Believer stars Hamilton actor Leslie Odom Jr as the film's protagonist Victor Fielding.

When Victor's 12-year-old daughter Angela, played by Lidya Jewett, goes missing in the woods along with her best friend Katherine, played by Olivia Marcum, they return after 3 days possessed by something evil.

Reprising her role from the original, Ellen Burstyn stars as Chris MacNeil, who, along with The Handmaid's Tale actress Ann Dowd, is enlisted to help the two young girls. Per the trailer, the possessed girls have a lot in common with MacNeil's own 12-year-old daughter Regan (Linda Blair) from the original outing.

Currently set for release on October 13, 2023, part one of the reboot trilogy also stars Jennifer Nettles, Okwui Okpokwasili and Raphael Sbarge.

Previously speaking about the reboot, producer Jason Blum said that fans will be pleasantly surprised with the new trilogy.

"[It's] going to be like David [Gordon Green]'s Halloween sequel," Blum explained. "I think it's going to pleasantly surprise all the skeptics out there. We had a lot of skeptics about Halloween and David turned them around, and I think he's going to turn it around with The Exorcist."

The suitably creepy trailer promises a terrifying experience which draws on themes from the original and fans of The Exorcist will be excited to hear snippets of Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells' which plays throughout the trailer.

The Exorcist: Believer film will be out in cinemas on October 13, 2023.
