A24 has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming horror Talk to Me, which played to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Directed by Australian brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, Talk to Me follows a group of friends who learn how to summon spirits using an embalmed hand (via Deadline).

Mia (Sophie Wilde) wants to take part in the action to distract herself on the anniversary of her mother's death, but when her friends gather for another raucous séance, they are unprepared for the consequences of breaking the rules through extended contact.

As shown in the new trailer, Mia fails to remove her hand within the recommended 90 seconds, meaning the boundaries between the two worlds collapse.

"What did the hand feel like?", Mia's friend asks her, to which she replies: "It felt amazing. I can feel and see everything on the other side. I felt my mum and she was trying to reach out."

But it's not long before supernatural visions begin to haunt Mia, and she fears that she didn't close the door to the other side.

At the time of writing, Talk to Me's Rotten Tomatoes score sits at 97% from 60 reviews.

"The film isn’t simply concerned with jump scares, and its horror settles deep into the bones, a disquiet that ultimately rattles the nerves," reads one review from Screen Rant.

Collider said: "Whether you can stomach it enough to make it all the way will depend on the viewer, but Talk To Me has plenty that promises to capture the souls of horror sickos looking for a sinister spectacle."

Meanwhile, Variety described it as a "confidently crafted effort with enough intriguing elements to keep viewers involved, if not particularly scared."

Talk to Me is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 28.
