The first trailer for Outlander star Lauren Lyle's new film has landed.

Something in the Water follows five friends as they gather for Lizzie's wedding, when disaster strikes.

The newly released trailer sees Lizzie (Lyle), Meg (Hiftu Quasem), Ruth (Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart), Cam (Nicole Rieko Setsuko) and Kayla (Natalie Mitson) head off on a boat trip to a remote island, when one of them is suddenly bitten by a shark.

And so begins a battle for survival.

When the boat collides with a coral reef and sinks during their desperate rush back to land, the women are left stranded in the water with a deadly shark stalking them.

The film, which is produced by Julie Baines and written by Cat Clarke, will arrive in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on July 5, 2024.

Elsewhere, Lyle is set to reprise her titular role in ITV crime drama Karen Pirie's second season, as well as star in upcoming Netflix series Toxic Town opposite Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker.

The four-part limited series will tell the true story of the 2009 Corby poisonings scandal that made headlines in the UK after a large amount of toxic waste was dumped.

Other cast members include The Full Monty's Robert Carlyle, Sex Education's Aimee Lou Wood, Our Flag Means Death's Rory Kinnear, and Downton Abbey's Brendan Coyle.

While it hasn't yet be confirmed if Lyle will reprise her breakthrough role as Marsali in Outlander's eighth and final season, fans will be pleased to know that last year she told Digital Spy she would "totally" be up for it.

Something in the Water arrives in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on July 5.
