Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell-Bower’s new erotic thriller Emmanuelle has released its first trailer.

Directed by Audrey Diwan, the upcoming film is inspired by Emmanuelle Arsan's novel of the same name, which was also made into a 1974 film starring Sylvia Kristel.

Diwan's take on the classic stars Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Tár) as the titular character, who sets out on a quest for pleasure in a luxury hotel.

Emmanuelle initiates numerous encounters and meets Kei (The White Lotus's Will Sharpe), who she asks in the trailer's opening moments: "Tell me something. What goes on in the head of a person in front of a closed door when they don't really know if they really want it?"

"It depends who's behind the door," replies Sharpe's character.

The trailer also introduces Naomi Watts' character, as well as Campbell-Bower's, who tells Emmanuelle: "Only two types of guest frequent luxury hotels: those on the prowl…and those on the run."

Money Heist star Chacha Huang and Infernal Affairs actor Anthony Wong also star in the film.

Diwan previously confirmed that the movie will diverge from the 1974 adaptation, telling Deadline: "In my imagination this was a completely different journey. I wanted to be as free as possible. This film explores the movement from rigid order to freedom, and something cold to something warmer."

Elsewhere, Campbell-Bower is currently filming the the upcoming fifth and final season of Netflix's Stranger Things, which is set to arrive on the streaming service next year.

The actor will reprise his role as the show's most menacing villain yet, Vecna, alongside leading stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo.

Emmanuelle does not yet have a UK or US release date.
