First trailer for Zendaya's new movie Challengers

The first trailer for Zendaya's new film Challengers has dropped, showing her caught in a love triangle on and off the tennis court.

In addition to Zendaya, Challengers stars West Side Story's Mike Faist and The Crown's Josh O'Connor, with Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino at the helm.

The trailer sees Zendaya in character as Tashi Donaldson, a teenage tennis prodigy, winning countless championships and being hailed as a future legend of the sport. As Tashi rises in the ranks, she forms a relationship with two up-and-coming male players: Art (Faist) and Patrick (O'Connor).

But Tashi's life soon takes an unexpected turn when an injury puts an end to her career on the court.

Years later, Tashi is the coach of her husband Art and has transformed him into a Grand Slam champion.

However, after Art hits a losing streak, Tashi forces him to enter a Challenger event to embark on the perfect comeback story.

Her plan hits a snag when Art must face off against Patrick, his now washed-up former best friend — and Tashi's ex.

As the former love rivals face each other on the court, Tashi must confront her past and ask herself what the cost of winning will be.

In real life, Zendaya's love life is less complicated, as she's happily dating English actor Tom Holland after they starred together in the latest live-action Spider-Man trilogy.

Holland recently revealed that he considers their relationship to be "sacred" and that the couple are "incredibly protective" of their romance.

"We don't think that we owe it to anyone, it's our thing," he said, "and it has nothing to do with our careers."

Challengers will be released in UK and US cinemas on September 15.
