The first footage of ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ has finally emerged. But rather than being courtesy of its debut trailer this glimpse was part of an IMAX featurette celebrating the franchise’s 10-year long history with the format.
It was still enough to perfectly whet the appetite for fifth instalment to the series, though, as it showed us the director on set doing his thing, as well as a myriad of cars and Mark Wahlberg causing Bayhem on the streets of London. The highlight of which was Bay pointing to a street corner and declaring, “Give me 3D here,” like it was the simplest thing in the world.
But the most tantalising reveal was that of The Last Knights themselves, as the clip gave us a peak at the Medieval times setting, as well as a battle scene that looked eerily reminiscent of ‘Gladiator’.
Michael Bay also took the opportunity to personally ramp up anticipation for ‘Transformers: The Last Knight.’
After originally declaring, “IMAX gives me the tools to give you the best cinema experience in the world,” he then spoke specifically about ‘The Last Knight’ declaring, “On this movie, ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’, we are shooting with IMAX 3D and the results are phenomenon … We’re using all the IMAX technology to give you the best experience you will see this year.”
IMAX Senior Vice President Lorne Orelans also took the time to explain how Bay is expanding the format with ’The Last Knight’, remarking, “Michael is the very first filmmaker to take two of these cameras and configure them on a 3D rig and shoot them in 3D in real time, and that’s not trivial. The resolution, the clarity, it really is mindboggling.”
We’ll finally get to see the results when ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ is released on June 23, 2017.
