Frank Grillo Hints At Crossbones Return After Captain America: Civil War

‘Captain America: Civil War’ villain Crossbones could be back…

During an interview with ABC News, actor Frank Grillo teased that we may see more of Crossbones… despite his apparent death in the recent ‘Captain America’ sequel.

“You think he dies, don’t you?” he asked. “Did you see the body?” And it looks as though he may know more than he’s letting on, as he asked: “What did you see?”

Of course, Frank Grillo first appeared in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ as Brock Rumlow… a Hydra agent who would later become known as Crossbones. After going up against Captain America himself, the unlucky henchman was thought to have been killed.

But it was revealed later in the film that he had, in fact, survived… but was badly burnt.

Re-appearing in ‘Civil War’, the character’s transformation into Crossbones was complete. Sporting a look which mimicked his comic book counterpart, Frank Grillo had definitely gone over to the dark side.

But after a run in with Cap and The Avengers, he was (once again) thought to have died.

This time, his one-on-one fight with Cap sees Crossbones detonating an explosive suicide belt… but before he can take out the Marvel superhero, the Scarlet Witch comes to his aid. Trapping Crossbones within a powerful forcefield, she contains the explosion, with the villain thought to have perished.

But is it quite that simple?

“That happened last time,” Grillo said about his character’s on screen death. “I’m not saying anything except that…you didn’t see a body.”

Does this mean we’ll see Crossbones return yet-again?

It’s certainly possible. After all, the comic book characters have a habit of dying, only to be written back into a later series. And if Crossbones did return, yet again, it might be a nice nod to comic book fans about how the industry resurrects its heroes time and time again.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
