Frankie Shaw’s Sundance Short ‘SMILF’ To Be Developed As Showtime Comedy

Frankie Shaw’s Sundance Short Film Jury Award winner SMILF is headed to television, with some big-name producers on board. Showtime has put in development a half-hour comedy based on Shaw’s semi-autobiographical short with Shaw set to write,

direct, star and executive produce. Developed by Shaw and Lee Eisenberg & Gene Stupnitsky, SMILF examines the travails of a young woman (Shaw) who comes to LA as both a struggling actress and a struggling single mom. The prolific comedy duo Eisenberg and Stupnitsky as well as Michael London executive produce alongside Shaw. Emily Brecht will oversee the project for Stupnitsky and Eisenberg’s Quantity Entertainment banner. ABC Signature is the studio.

Shaw wrote, directed and starred in the 9-minute SMILF short, which won the Sundance jury award in 2014. Thomas Middleditch played the male lead.

As an actress, Shaw co-starred on Spike’s Blue Mountain State, reprising her role in the upcoming followup movie, and on ABC’s Mixology. Shaw is repped by ICM Partners. Eisenberg & Stupnitsky are repped by WME and Mosaic. London is repped by WME.
