Yahoo Movies 'Frasier' could be set for a reboot with Kelsey Grammer
Kelsey Grammer could be set to reprise his most famous role, as psychiatrist and radio personality Dr. Frasier Crane.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grammer, who was latterly the show’s executive producer, is in ‘early stage’ talks with CBS about a possible reboot or follow-up series.
He’s said to be taking pitches from writers, though how a new series would present itself is currently open, whether it be a revival or a development from the original.
CBS has declined to comment on the rumours.
Frasier was originally a spin-off from the revered Boston sitcom Cheers, in which Crane was the boyfriend of Sam Malone’s ex-girlfriend Diane Chambers (played by Ted Danson and Shelley Long).
Moving back to his hometown of Seattle, Harvard alumnus and incurable snob Crane then takes up as a radio show host taking calls from listeners.
The show ran for a total of 264 episodes over 11 seasons, and was a hit for the NBC network before winding up in 2004.
It also made stars of David Hyde Pierce as his Frasier’s competitive brother Niles and British actress Jane Leeves as his live-in housekeeper Daphne.
British-born John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father, the blue-collar ex-cop Martin Crane, died in February this year.
As such, some fans have shown their concerns over plans to reboot the show.
Not saying they should be put in prison immediately, but the people proposing bringing Frasier back without John Mahoney should definitely be on trial at the very least.
