Regardless of the Super Bowl, Fred Warner has something to look forward to now that the big game is over: the arrival of his baby boy with his wife Sydney Hightower.

The San Francisco 49ers linebacker and the former Bachelor contestant announced they were expecting their first child together in October 2023. The baby boy is due in March 2024, a month after the 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

After getting engaged in May 2021, Fred and Sydney tied the knot on June 25, 2022, in an intimate ceremony in Vista, California. Now, the two are getting ready to welcome their first child.

"I've been really, really blessed with an amazing pregnancy. I have a whole different outlook on it from the start," Sydney told PEOPLE in February 2024. "My first and second trimesters were a breeze. I was literally in pregnancy bliss. This last trimester is a little tougher, but I'm getting through. I'm pleasantly surprised with my experience."

Fred and Sydney first announced they were pregnant with a joint post on Instagram in October 2023. They posted a video compilation with sweet moments, from seeing their positive pregnancy test to their first ultrasound to behind-the-scenes footage of pregnancy shoots they’d done.

“The past several months we have experienced the most precious moments of our lives,” they wrote in the caption. “Every weekly milestone and new development has been indescribable…the best is yet to come!”

They also announced the baby would be due in March 2024.

In January 2024, the couple announced they were having a boy in an Instagram video showing their reactions. Before they cut the cake, revealing blue icing inside — implying a son — the video showed Sydney’s hesitation as she asked Fred if she could peek first. He replied, “Stop, let’s go,” in nervous anticipation.

Once they cut the cake, Fred screamed and fell to the floor in joy while Sydney sweetly laughed at his reaction.

She is planning her baby’s nursery

Once the couple found out they were expecting, Sydney set out planning the nursery for her baby boy. She documented the process on her Instagram Story, showing how it went from a regular room to a soon-to-be nursery.

In December 2023, she shared that her goals for the month were to paint the room and add wainscoting as well as light fixtures. She also wanted to buy a rug, dresser and crib.

“in February I’ll focus on styling & getting the smaller details pieces to bring it all to [sic] together!” she wrote on her Story.

During her interview with PEOPLE, Sydney elaborated that she planned to go into full nursery planning and mom-prepping mode following the big game.

"My house right now is like a construction site. There are boxes and furniture everywhere. It's an actual disaster," she said, noting there are also "camera crews in here every day for press for Fred."

She continued, "Things are really crazy. I've got diapers, shoes, and things everywhere. The nursery is not even close to being finished. So things are chaotic around here, but I've got six weeks left. I'm telling myself this week is completely dedicated to everything we have to do for the Super Bowl. And then, after we get home from that Super Bowl, it's crunch time. It is baby time. We have to completely shift our gears to becoming parents."

The third trimester has been hard for her

While Sydney said the first two trimesters were a “breeze,” she shared that she was struggling the most with the third trimester.

“This third trimester has really taken me for a spin,” she said in an Instagram Story Q&A. “Definitely the hardest trimester by far. I still have six weeks to go so I’m just trying to stay calm lol but it’s been really hard not gonna lie.”

She was 4 weeks out from her due date during the Super Bowl

At the time of the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, Sydney was four weeks away from her due date — but that didn't stop her from being present. Ahead of the game, she told PEOPLE that she received the all-clear from her doctor to hop on the hour-long flight when it looked like the 49ers would make it to the playoffs.

"I was like, 'I'm not gonna speak anything into existence, but let's say we got there,' " she shared. "I'm very superstitious. I asked, 'Would you clear me to fly?' And she said yes."

"Everything's going good so far, so as long as nothing changes in a week, we're all good," she added.

While at the game, Sydney said she would have to "take it easy" as her husband took the field.

"I was told to stay really, really hydrated and try not to walk too much on the day of," she said. "So I'm just going to make sure I get some vitamin C packs and try not to jump around too much."

Overall, she viewed being pregnant during Fred’s big moment as a “fairy tale," she told PEOPLE.

"It's like a movie. You can't write this stuff," she said. "And we'll be able to have these memories forever, will be able to tell our son and show him pictures like of his mother pregnant with him and his dad, so excited to meet him, literally at the Super Bowl."

Sydney and Fred are already looking forward to raising their son to embrace all of the cultures in his background.

On her Instagram Story, Sydney joked that “the ladies” will be “dying” over her son as he’s a mix of “Caucasian, African American, Dominican, Mexican, and Panamanian.”

When asked whether she would teach the baby Spanish, she said “for sure!”

“Him being bilingual is super important to Fred and I,” she wrote.
