Free Free: Cillian Murphy gets trigger happy in exclusive new clip
If you’re making an arms deal, you’re going to want to try before you buy which is exactly what Cillian Murphy Irish mobster Chris does in this hilarious exclusive new clip from Ben Wheatley’s ‘Free Fire’.
Watch it in full above.
Chris, along with his partner Frank (regular Wheatley collaborator Michael Smiley) and his dimwitted hoods Bernie (Enzo Cilenti) and Stevo (Sam Riley), have gathered in a Boston warehouse to buy a truck load of guns from South African arms dealer Vernon (Sharlto Copley).
The deal, brokered by Oscar-winner Brie Larson’s Justine and Armie Hammer’s smooth-talking Ord, is precariously balanced with the tension between the two gangs already rising. Chris’s aggressive gun-firing only exacerbates the strain, with Copley’s narcissistic Vern (catchphrase “watch and Vern”) ready to snap, and as you can see in the clip, he’s not the only one.
Here’s the official synopsis: Justine (Brie Larson) has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen (Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley) and a gang led by Vernon (Sharlto Copley) and Ord (Armie Hammer) who are selling them a stash of guns. But when shots are fired in the handover, a heart stopping game of survival ensues.
‘Free Fire’ is the latest film from acclaimed British director Ben Wheatley (‘High Rise’, ‘A Field In England’, ‘Kill List’) who wanted to make a film based around an epic shoot out, but one steeped in reality.
“Shoot-outs in real life are very different from Hollywood’s,” Wheatley recently told the BBC. “I started out by reading an FBI report of a shoot-out in Miami in the 1980s. Every bullet fired had to be accounted for by the FBI agents and the report showed just how hard it is to hit a moving target, how bullets miss and hit something else. The report also gave a blow-by-blow account of the injuries involved.”
‘Free Fire’ opens nationwide across the UK on 31 March 2017.
