‘Frozen’ Soundtrack Nabs 10th Non-Consecutive Week at No. 1

Frozen” remained hot on the U.S. album chart last week, as the Disney soundtrack held onto the No. 1 position for a 10th non-consecutive week.

For the fifth week in a row, “Frozen” took the top position with sales of 133,000 (off 11%), according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending April 13, vaulting over the 2 million-unit sales mark. Its 10-week stand at the apex matches the record for an animated soundtrack set in 1994-95 by Disney’s “The Lion King.” However, the present title is unlikely to top unit sales of “King,” which shifted more than 10 million.

The continuing streak for “Frozen” provided a bit of upbeat news in an otherwise bleak chart week. The No. 2 title, Pharrell Williams’ holdover “G I R L,” moved a mere 29,000 copies (up 18%), and three titles in the national top 10 failed to sell more than 20,000.

Four releases debuted on the chart. Christian rock act MercyMe’s “Welcome to the New” (Fair Trade/Columbia) bowed at No. 4 with 26,000 sold. The collection was just off the Texas quintet’s all-time chart peak of No. 3, reached in 2010 with “The Generous Mr. Lovewell.”

Black Label Society, the metal unit fronted by Ozzy Osbourne’s former guitarist Zakk Wylde, arrived at No. 5 with “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” (E1), which shifted 26,000 (just 152 copies off MercyMe’s pace). The act’s previous top chart post was No. 4, attained by “Order of the Black” in 2010.

R&B vocalist SoMo’s self-titled Republic set rolled in at No. 6, reaping sales of 23,000. The Texas-bred singer, born Joseph Somers-Morales, released his debut collection “My Life” last year, but it failed to chart.

Country vet Martina McBride’s collection of rock and R&B covers “Everlasting” (Kobalt) boarded at No. 7 with a 21,000-unit tally. The vocalist’s Don Was-produced effort includes numbers popularized by Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, and Van Morrison, among others. Her previous release “Eleven” topped out at No. 10 in 2011.

The week’s other holdovers included 5 Seconds to Summer’s “She Looks So Perfect” (No. 3, 26,000 sold, down 82%), Luke Bryan’s “Crash My Party” (No. 8, 19,000, up 14%), “Shakira” (No. 9, 17,000, off 41%) and Florida Georgia Line’s “Here’s to the Good Times” (No. 10, 17,000, up 14%). The latter three acts were featured on last week’s Academy of Country Music Awards telecast. Shakira’s release topped the resurgent Florida Georgia Line title by just six copies.
