Gal Gadot will fight them on the beaches in new Wonder Woman poster

It’s almost a year since she silenced her critics by being almost certainly the best thing about ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ – and now, we’ve got less than three months before Gal Gadot takes centre stage in her own movie as ‘Wonder Woman.’

Just to remind us of that fact, Gadot took to Twitter on Friday evening to present followers with the latest poster for the Warner Bros/DC movie.

Along with the striking image of the Amazonian warrior princess kneeling with her sword on a beach in the dawn’s early light, Gadot had a simple message for us: ‘Believe in Wonder.’

True enough, a great many fans of the DC Extended Universe are doing their utmost to ‘believe in wonder’ right now, as last year’s one-two punch combo ‘Batman V Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ – while a comfortable commercial success, with global box office takings of over $1.6 billion put together – didn’t exactly go down a storm with all audiences.

The signs haven’t been good for the DCEU since, with well-publicised behind-the-scenes problems on planned future entries ‘The Flash’ and ‘The Batman.’ There have also been rumours that ‘Wonder Woman’ has had some difficulty.

However, it bears repeating that Gadot’s comparatively brief appearance in ‘Batman V Superman’ was a clear highlight of that deeply flawed blockbuster, convincing most naysayers that the 31-year old Israeli actress (previously best known for her supporting role in the ‘Fast & Furious’ movies) was ideal casting as the first big screen take on the original superheroine.

Will ‘Wonder Woman’ provide the DCEU with the redemption we’re hankering for? Past experience urges us to proceed with caution. It may not be easy to ‘believe in wonder’ right now, but – like Agent Mulder before us – we want to believe.

Let’s hope for the best when ‘Wonder Woman’ hits UK cinemas on 2 June.
