Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington hated filming 'horrific' dragon scenes

Game of Thrones' Kit Harington has described filming scenes involving the show's famous dragons as "horrific."

The Jon Snow actor said that he had initially not believed his co-star Emilia Clarke - who played Daenerys Targaryen on the hit show - when she complained about them, but eventually sympathised with her when his character finally met the dragons in series eight.

“Emilia had been moaning about it for seasons, and I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever. You have not been through the mud in Northern Ireland. A buck in a nice warm room?’” he told The Hollywood Reporter, referencing the rig they used to film the dragon-riding scenes.

He admitted: “But she was absolutely right. It was horrific. It’s not acting at all. It is not acting, it never will be acting, and it is not what I’d signed up for. It is very uncomfortable as a man.”

Harington, who also voiced a character in the How To Train Your Dragon franchise, added that he “hated” filming the final season’s big battle episode, but said that he now has a different perspective looking back on it.

“As tough as it was, it was Thrones, man. It was Thrones! It was everything Thrones should have been,” the 32-year-old said. “It’s a full set built, hundreds of extras throwing everything they had into it, all of us as a big ensemble cast – I loved it.”

Harington has been nominated for Best Actor at this year’s Emmy Awards.

George RR Martin, the author behind the books that inspired the TV show, recently revealed he feels liberated now the HBO series is over, even if the prequel believed to be titled Bloodmoon begins next year.

He told The Observer: “I don’t think [the TV series] was very good for me. The very thing that should have speeded me up actually slowed me down.”

“Every day I sat down to write and even if I had a good day…I’d feel terrible because I’d be thinking: ‘My God, I have to finish the book. I’ve only written four pages when I should have written 40’.”
