There’s been a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of music fans suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

According to reports, Gary Barlow – yes, Gary Barlow from Take That – has snagged himself a masked cameo as a Stormtrooper in ‘Star Wars VIII’.

It’s claimed that the 45-year-old musician filmed his scene at Pinewood Studios last week.

A source told The Sun: “Gary is a huge Star Wars fan so this is a dream come true.

“The process has been kept top secret, as he doesn’t want anybody to find out. His connections in the film industry got him the part.”

It’s not Barlow’s first time on screen, though his previous roles haven’t been quite on the same scale.

He played a hitchhiker called Micky in an episode of 'Heartbeat’ back in 2000, opposite Nick Berry.

He’s also been in BBC comedy 'Miranda’, and 'Keith Lemon: The Film’, a movie which has the rare honour of a 0% 'fresh’ rating on reviews aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

That said, he might have found himself in rarified company.

It’s also been rumoured that Prince William and Prince Harry also donned the Stormtrooper armour in secret to film a scene, while visiting the set last month.

The movie, directed by Rian Johnson, is out in December, 2017.
