Gemma Atkinson has revealed a troll told her she was “fat” in an old episode of Hollyoaks - but she had the perfect response.

The actress, 35, played teenager Lisa Hunter in the soap from 2001 to 2005.

She revealed on the Going For Goal Women’s Health podcast that after old episodes were shown again recently, a man contacted her to comment on her weight.

However, Atkinson used the opportunity to teach the troll a bit of a lesson.

She said: “A guy DM’d me, and he said, 'Wow, I never realised at the time, but you were fat in Hollyoaks weren’t you?'

"I went back to him and I said, 'Well, I was 15, so I was chubbier than what I am now, but please, please don’t let your daughter think that that’s your idea of fat.

“A size 12, 10, 15-year-old girl is your idea of fat, please do not let your daughter think that – she will have problems for the rest of her life if that’s the case'."

Atkinson has spoken out about weight before, particularly following the birth of her first child.

The actress is mum to one-year-old daughter Mia with her partner Gorka Marquez, who she met when she was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017.

After welcoming her daughter, Atkinson told fans not to worry so much about their post-baby bodies.

She wrote on Instagram that she was “loudly and proudly” rocking her post-pregnancy curves and encouraged new mothers not to be in such a hurry to shed the extra pounds.
