Fall’s best accessory is a coat. Unlike during the winter when you wear one out of necessity — and options are limited to unflattering parka number one or unflattering parka number two — fall’s less severe weather allows you to have fun with that outer layer. You can keep it comfy and chic with a sweater coat, timeless with a denim jacket, or go the cool-girl route and finish every ‘fit off with a giant blazer. But right now, there’s one classic coat celebrities can’t stop wearing, and it’s one I personally can’t stop thinking about.

Stars across every generation have made it clear that this fall’s ‘It’ coat is the trench. Amal Clooney, Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lawrence, and Olivia Rodrigo have all been spotted sporting the French-girl staple that looks good with just about anything.

Elle Fanning recently gave a masterclass in how to wear the coat in your day to day by pairing it with a simple pair of jeans and sleek loafers, while Angelina Jolie dressed her trench up with sexy pumps and a black dress. It’s a clean, elegant coat that has the power to make baggy jeans feel sophisticated and a stuffy office outfit look a little more chic. Not to mention, it’s practical; it’s thin enough for cool days, but roomy enough that you can layer underneath into winter.

To help you get that classic, celebrity-approved look, I found 10 trench coats you can grab today, starting at just $73:

Gap Icon Trench Coat

Gap’s aptly named Icon Trench Coat, which features a relaxed fit, belted waist, double-breasted front, and an oversized collar, is currently 40 percent off at checkout. The cotton-blend coat is available in two colors, a classic khaki as well as an autumnal olive green, and is a favorite among shoppers who rave about its “excellent quality.” “Such a classic find, and the price point is amazing compared to other high quality trench coats,” said one fan who noted that the green trench “goes with everything.” Another shopper wrote that they get “so many compliments and questions” asking where they got it from, deeming it a “casual-chic must have.”

Makkrom Double-Breasted Trench Coat

Makkrom’s Double-Breasted Trench is a favorite among Amazon customers, boasting more than 600 five-star ratings. This coat is available in 10 colors, ranging from khaki and baby blue to a deep burnt orange, and, according to customers, it looks more expensive than it is. “[It] doesn’t look or feel cheap, even though it was inexpensive,” wrote one shopper who said that it’s identical to a coat over twice its price. “[It’s] well made [and] the fabric is rich feeling,” said another person. Other fans were impressed by its versatility, explaining that it “looks great with most outfits casual and dressy,” with one person even deeming it the “perfect piece” for a capsule wardrobe.

J.Crew Relaxed Heritage Trench Coat

J.Crew reigns when it comes to classics, so when looking for a timeless trench, it was one of the first places I turned to. The brand’s 100-percent cotton coat features a chic, double-breasted silhouette, a belted-detail at the cuff that adds functionality (and personality) to the sleeve, and a tie at the waist. Shoppers say this is “a perfect trench,” explaining that while other trench coats they’ve tried have been “stiff, uncomfortable and not practical,” this one is “incredibly soft [and] has a lovely drape.” Another fan who called this coat “stunning” said that they spent “a long time” looking for “a good quality long trench coat that wasn’t rigid and uncomfortable” and “finally found it” in this style. “It’s well made and the quality is perfect,” they raved.

It’s not shocking that trench coats are having a moment in Hollywood given that the timeless piece looks good year after year (what you wear underneath might change, but the trench will always remain!). Shop more trench coats below, including cropped, denim, and corduroy versions of the fall-ready style.
