Geoffrey Rush is unrecognisable as Einstein in new TV series trailer

Yes, that’s eminent Australian thespian Geoffrey Rush under all that prosthetic make-up, transformed to look unnervingly like the image of Albert Einstein.

Here in a new trailer ad for the National Geographic series ‘Genius’, the pillar of modern physics is jamming out a bit of Lady Gaga on the fiddle.

The series ‘will explore how patent clerk Einstein could not get a teaching job or doctorate in his early life yet managed to go on to develop the theory of relativity’, as is based on the book Einstein: His Life and Universe, by Walter Isaacson.

The clip was premiered during yesterday’s Superbowl, among a host of other new trailers.

But none were quite as impressively transformative as this.

Rush will star opposite Nicholas Rowe, Johnny Flynn (as the young Einstein), and Samantha Colley as Serbian physicist and fellow student Mileva Maric, who Einstein eventually married.

Emily Watson also stars as Elsa Einstein, Einstein’s second wife (and, as it happens, also his first cousin).

The series will premiere in April, with the first episode directed by Ron Howard.
