Donald Trump has made much about the ‘elitists’ who apparently run the world.

But George Clooney is hurling that label right back at him.

In an interview with Canal+, Clooney claims that the President of the United States benefits from a lucrative Screen Actors Guild pension, thanks to his past appearances on screen.

“He collects $120,000 a year in his Screen Actors Guild pension fund. He is a Hollywood elitist,” said the actor.

According to disclosures made in 2015, and reported by Bloomberg, Trump received a sum of $110,228 (over £88,000) from a union pension fund, though it’s not clear if this is an annual payment.

Trump is a member of the guild thanks to TV and film appearances in shows like ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’, and movies like ‘Home Alone 2: Lost In New York’ and ‘Zoolander’.

Meanwhile, it’s said that he made over $200 million in 11 years on ‘The Apprentice’.

Clooney also took aim at Steve Bannon, Trump’s advisor and chief strategist, who has also made his own forays into Hollywood.

“Steve Bannon is a failed film writer and director,” Clooney added.

“That’s the truth, that’s what he’s done. He wrote a Shakespearean rap musical about the LA riots that he couldn’t get made.

“He made a lot of money off of Seinfeld. He’s elitist Hollywood, I mean, that’s the reality.”

Clooney has been a fierce critic of Trump, chiming in when he decided to take aim at Meryl Streep, following her scathing speech about the president at the Golden Globes.

After Trump branded Streep ‘over-rated’ (sic), Clooney shot back in an interview: “Aren’t you supposed to be running the country?

“I didn’t vote for him, I don’t support him, I don’t think he’s the right choice.

“At this moment in our lives we have to hope that he doesn’t destroy everything. The reality is you have to hope he will do a decent job because if the United States fails, really terrible things happen, so you have to hope that he can.”
