Gerard Butler is returning to the Olympus Has Fallen franchise with new sequel Night Has Fallen.

The film will see Butler, who is also producing, reprise his role as Mike Banning, a former Army Ranger-turned-protective agent for the US Secret Service.

Ric Roman, who directed the most recent instalment of the action franchise, Angel Has Fallen, will be back to direct the sequel, while Robert Kamen (The Karate Kid, The Fifth Element, Taken, The Transporter) will write the script.

Further details about the plot and cast are yet to be revealed, with the project still in the early stages of development.

According to Deadline, the film will be shot at Millennium Media's Nu Boyana Studios in Bulgaria.

Butler, who's been saving the world a lot in recent years (not the real one, unfortunately), is also set to appear in Ric Roman's upcoming disaster movie Greenland.

Originally expected to arrive on August 14 in the US and August 21 in the UK, Greenland is now skipping cinemas to instead be released on streaming services.

The film will air on HBO Max in 2021, while viewers in the UK will eventually be able to watch it on Amazon Prime Video, although a release date is yet to be specified.

Also starring Deadpool's Morena Baccarin, the movie follows a family fighting for survival as a planet-killing comet races to Earth.
