The forthcoming ‘Geostorm’ sounds like it could be a disaster movie in every sense of the word.

Starring Gerard Butler, the film wrapped nearly two years ago, at the beginning of 2015, but is now set to go into a new stage of re-shoots costing a hefty $15 million (just over £12 million), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Set to be the directorial debut of Dean Devlin, writer of movies like ‘Stargate’ and ‘Independence Day’, Danny Cannon, the British director behind movies like Sylvester Stallone’s ill-fated ‘Judge Dread’ in 1995, and more recently, the TV show ‘Gotham’, is taking over the reigns.

Action don Jerry Bruckheimer has also been drafted in as a producer, after the movie suffered at the hands of test audiences, and was delayed from its October, 2016, release date as a result.

It’s said that new characters have been inserted, new plot added, and some original cast-members jettisoned completely.

The plot joins together two strands – with Butler playing the leader of a space mission sent to stop climate-controlling satellites creating a deadly storm.

There’s also a plot to assassinate the president hurled in there too, with Abbie Cornish, Jim Sturgess, Katheryn Winnick, Andy Garcia and Ed Harris also on the bill.

And while re-shoot aren’t always bad news – look at ‘Rogue One’ and ‘World War Z’ for evidence of this – whether a good film can be pulled out of ‘Geostorm’ remains to be seen.

The film is being made by Skydance, which, coincidentally, has had a hand in movies like ‘World War Z’, ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and ‘Terminator Genisys’.

It’s also currently working on ‘World War Z 2’, and has recently produced sci-fi thriller ‘Life’ with Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds.

The latter is due out in March, 2017. Check the trailer below.
