Last month, Gerard Depardieu hit the headlines when he relieved himself into a bottle on a plane instead of waiting for the flight to get underway and then using the toilets.

According to reports, he’d been blocked from the loos by a stewardess, as the plane was getting ready for take off.

Now the French actor has appeared on American newscaster Anderson Cooper’s show to tell his side of the story.

Depardieu laughed as he described the situation, and told Cooper that wine was not involved, despite reports.

"I say: 'Madam, I have a lot of pee. I have to go pee. It's hurt me. I'm not a terrorist, I just want to pee."

A friend offered him a bottle to relieve himself into, as Depardieu was desperate, and the stewardess was insistent that the actor stay in his seat:

"I'm not a monster. I'm just a man who wants to pee... I don't understand why she blocked the door.”

Unfortunately, though, the bottle was not big enough and other passengers were left disgusted by the incident and subsequent mess.

"The bottle was too small, you know. I am an elephant... I said: 'Don't worry, I will clean it up."

This led to the plane taxiing back to the terminal and Depardieu being escorted off the plane.
