Ghost pirates rush the Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge Superbowl trailer

Looks like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has got a bit… dark.

With a brooding Johnny Cash soundtrack, the new clip from ‘Salazar’s Revenge’, the fifth movie in the blockbuster series, paints a grim picture.

There’s the freaky sight of ghost pirates rushing to shore, boats burning in the sea, and a worrisome fate for Geoffrey Rush’s Hector Barbossa in this new footage, released during yesterday’s Superbowl.

There’s also the rising spectre of Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar, Jack Sparrow’s (Johnny Depp) old nemesis, who having escaped from the Devil’s Triangle – aka the Bermuda Triangle – is out to kill every pirate on the high seas.

Only finding the Trident of Poseidon will save our drunken hero, obviously.

Also starring Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, and a return to the action for Orlando Bloom, the eye-wateringly budgeted movie – it’s said to have cost a staggering $320 million (£257 million) – is due out on May 26 across the UK.
