Just the latest title from the gaming industry to receive a movie adaptation – Uncharted starring Tom Holland will finally arrive next year – this one only hit shelves last summer, but its massive success (over 6.5 million copies sold) has caught the eye of Sony Pictures.
Ghost of Tsushima follows a samurai warrior called Jin Sakai, the last surviving member of a clan who sets aside his lifelong traditions to battle for the freedom of Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan.
"We're excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin's story to the big screen," commented Head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash.
"We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences."
Stahelski's appointment in the director's chair is a statement in itself, having called the shots on all three John Wick flicks (he's returning for the fourth instalment too).
The 52-year-old also lead the second-units on filming for Captain America: Civil War and last year's Worlds of DC epic Birds of Prey.
