We never thought it would happen but a third Ghostbusters movie with the original cast is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Filming has officially wrapped on the new project, so as long as no-one ctrl+alt+deletes all the footage we should be getting a big blast of slimey nostalgia come next year.

Director Jason Reitman has marked the end of filming with a photo of himself, his father Ivan Reitman (who directed the original two movies) and cast members Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Logan Kim.

"Wrapped!" he wrote. "68 days and still smiling." He also included the hashtag #GB2020 and while it seems likely that Ghostbusters 2020 is still a working title placeholder thing, we've kind of grown attached to it.

Another star who is joining the franchise is none other than Ant-Man and the Wasp and Living with Yourself star Paul Rudd, who plays a teacher who is also a seismologist who comes to town to investigate some mysterious earthquakes.

"He's extraordinarily funny," Ivan Reitman recently teased.

Meanwhile, confirmed returning cast members include Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Annie Potts and the legendary Sigourney Weaver.

If you can't wait until next summer to start bustin' again (careful), Universal Orlando has opened its annual Halloween Horror Nights event, complete with themed sections for both Ghostbusters and Jordan Peele's Us. Digital Spy got to go and try it out – and it was pretty great.
