Ghostbusters Reboot: 1st Image Of Chris Hemsworth In Action

A few eyebrows were raised at the announcement that uber-studly Thor actor Chris Hemsworth was joining the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot as the secretary of the now all-female group.

However, there were whispers right away that there might be more to his role than we’d been told - and it seems this was definitely the case as, whilst the first on-set photo of Hemsworth to leak online shows him looking not particularly Thor-like, it also reveals something we’d hitherto been unaware of.

Namely - it would appear that Chris Hemsworth’s character Kevin is effectively a Ghostbuster himself.

The first image (which appears to have premiered at People Magazine, although it’s been widely published online) shows the Aussie beefcake looking atypically nerdy with short hair, horn-rimmed glasses, and a more slender build than when he’s in Norse god mode.

Most notably, however, he’s also wearing the same uniform we’ve seen his co-stars in.

We can also scarcely fail to notice he’s riding a motorcycle (Ecto-2, perhaps?) which appears to be kitted out with what we can confidently assume are ghostbusting gadgets.

It has been reported that Hemsworth turned ‘Ghostbusters’ down initially and that the part was rejigged to lure him back. Might getting him in on the action be part of that? Or might extending ghostbusting duties beyond the core four be a way to set the scene for proposed all-male spin-off ‘Ghost Corps,’ still anticipated to star Channing Tatum?

Either way, this film makes it two supporting roles in 80s comedy reboots in a row for Hemsworth, as he also has what promises to be an eye-catching part in ‘Vacation,’ opening in the UK this Friday, 21 August.

Meanwhile, director Paul Feig’s ‘Ghostbusters’ - with new proton-pack wielding quartet Mellissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon - is set to open on 15 July 2016.
