Ghostbusters Reboot Trailer Is The Most Hated In YouTube History

Despite the largely enthusiastic reception to the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot trailer, it seems to have angered a lot of internet users after becoming the most loathed trailer on YouTube.

The first proper trailer arrived in March and has amassed almost 30 million view so far, but the number of dislikes, according to Screencrush, renders it one of the most disliked videos on YouTube and the most hated movie trailer of all time on the video sharing platform.

Currently, the trailer has 553,154 thumbs down compared to 207,346 thumbs up, making for a divisive split. And just to put this into context, last year’s abysmal ‘Fantastic Four’ had just over 20,000 thumbs down.

But this is by no means a reflection on the film itself. Instead, it appears some people have taken it upon themselves to bash the film before it has even come out, mainly due to the fact that an all-female cast are fronting the film instead of a male-led team.

However, despite the 2016 reboot being set in a different universe (meaning any of the original characters won’t appear), a majority of the original cast are cameoing, including Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Bill Murray.

Over the past 12 months both the cast and director Paul Feig have defended the film from online trolls but it seems the haters want to have their say with the trailer, at least, with one comment reading, ‘We made it to 500000 dislikes,’ and another gloating, ‘Lets get it to a million!’

The sad thing is that, despite people’s obvious reservations, it is by and large and well-made and entertaining trailer that’s not really deserving of such a vicious blacklash. Wouldn’t it be great that, when the film does finally come out, it proves all the doubters wrong?

‘Ghostbusters’ is in UK cinemas on 15 July, 2016.
