In news that might shock you, Glenn Close twerked at the 2021 Oscars.

Shortly after losing out on Best Supporting Actress, Close participated in a game that saw nominees asked to guess whether a famous song had either won an Oscar or failed to receive a nomination.

The event’s DJ, Questlove, played Close a short part of the song “Da Butt” by funk group Experience Unlimited.

Shocking everyone with her music knowledge, Close recounted how she was a fan of the song, which she recalled failed to be nominated for its inclusion in Spike Lee film School Daze. She described this as “an effing tragedy”.

When asked if she knew the dance routine, Close jumped up and began twerking as the song played.

Viewers watched on in delight and hailed the turn of events as the best moment of the night.

“Glenn Close shaking her wagon on national TV.......... GET THAT WOMAN HER OSCAR,” one viewer wrote.

Another quipped: “Glenn Close just won her first Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.”

Earlier in the evening, Best Supporting Actor winner Daniel Kaluuya brought some much-needed levity to an otherwise awkward ceremony with a comment about his parents having sex that left his mum in shock.

The evening’s big champion was Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland, which won a handful of awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for Frances McDormand.
