Yahoo Movies New Godzilla movie confirmed from Godzilla Minus One director
A brand new Godzilla movie is officially on the way from the director of Godzilla Minus One.
The monster film became a huge critical and commercial hit upon its release last year – and work is now underway on a new chapter.
The official Godzilla account took to social media today (November 1) to share an "emergency announcement" that a new movie in the franchise had been greenlit, with Takashi Yamazaki returning to direct, write and do VFX.

He held all three roles on Godzilla Minus One – though it is currently unclear if the new movie will be a direct sequel or not.
Last year, producer Minami Ichikawa addressed the possibility of a sequel, explaining that studio Toho was not in a rush to do a follow-up.
"We established a dedicated 'Godzilla Room' division at Toho in 2019," he explained to the Japanese GQ. "We're collectively considering the future of the Godzilla character.
"We've had things like animated Godzilla films in the past, so we're brainstorming new avenues to expand the Godzilla universe, including publications, merchandise, and collaboration products.

"However, I don't feel the need to rush the next installment of a live-action film. Good films are all about quality. We want great ideas, an excellent script, a talented director, and the right cast to work on it carefully. Godzilla deserves to have that level of intentionality."
Godzilla Minus One is set in postwar Japan and follows a kamikaze pilot suffering from PTSD as he encounters the legendary monster.
The movie went on to become the highest-grossing Japanese language movie in North America earlier this year, and ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
It was given an unexpected Netflix release a few months ago, making history as the first movie to ever top the streamer's movie chart at the same time as the video-on-demand (VOD) chart.
Godzilla Minus One is streaming now on Netflix.
