Gogglebox’s Paige Deville has dramatically confirmed she is cutting off contact with her mother.

Ms Deville and her mother Sally Hayward joined Gogglebox in 2019 but the former recently revealed they had quit the series.

On Tuesday morning in a series of Twitter messages, the 25-year-old star responded to comments made by Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder who branded her a “snowflake” for leaving the series.

Ms Deville said her exit from Gogglebox was not related to her family issues but instead down to the pressures of being in the public eye.

She wrote: "To clarify, people thinking I fell out with my mom over Gogglebox, my ‘mom’ is an absolute disgrace who I wish to never speak to again due to a serious family issue NOT about a tv show.”

She said the decision to quit was due to “hidden pressures of the show”.

She added: “Feeling nervous about how you may come across to 3 mil (sic) viewers, pressures of being funny and making people laugh and if not then judged by trolls and messaged daily abuse about suicide."

The Channel 4 star continued: “l have never been so happy and free since deciding to leave and that chapter is now close but felt I have had to justify myself as people are still commenting.

"BE KIND, always xx.”

Speaking to Birmingham Live, Deville confirmed her family strains.

She said: "There have been problems within the family and my mum was given an ultimatum. The decision means I have nothing to do with her now. I think the decision is irreversible.

"It is very sad but that’s life, unfortunately. My mum said she would no longer be filming Gogglebox."

Announcing she was leaving the show, Deville wrote on social media: ”I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox.

“It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, their NTA winners.”

A Gogglebox spokesperson said in a statement to Metro.co.uk at the time: “The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.”
