Gogglebox returned for a new series on Friday night (February 21), and with it came the story of a cruel (and potentially traumatising) prank.

The Malone family had just finished watching an ITV news segment on Dagmar Turner – the woman who became the first person to play a violin while undergoing brain surgery.

Watching the incredible story inspired man-of-the-house Tom Sr to share a family story of his own.

He recalled the time that their son Shaun had a major brain operation and had to leave the hospital with part of his skull still missing.

And in a cruel (but rather amusing) prank, Shaun decided to use his physical state to scare the life out of a McDonald's employee.

Recounting the story, Tom said: "The worst thing was [when he had his brain surgery], he had the shunt thing put in the side of his head and all his skull was missing, he had a woolly hat on, and I brought him to McDonald's down the road.

"He got an ice cream and he was sucking on it, and there was this girl going round cleaning the tables in McDonald's, and he took his hat off and went, 'Ahhhh, f**king brain freeze!'

"He turned around and all his head was gone. She nearly fainted. F**king hell, she nearly went under. Do you remember that?"

"Oh yeah, that was cruel," replied Shaun, laughing himself silly.

"That was cruel, mate," replied Tom. "She nearly went under. Your head was missing and everything."

Back in 2016, The Sun reported that Shaun was rushed to hospital with a rare brain disease, with doctors giving him just a 10% chance of survival. Not only did Shaun come out the other side of the terrifying situation, but he now coaches Manchester United's under-16s Ability Counts team.

He also plays a part in the football club's #UnitedandMe social media campaign, which highlights the inspirational stories of volunteers.

Gogglebox airs on Channel 4.
