The moment ‘Evil Dead’ fans have been waiting for has arrived, as the first full-length trailer for upcoming TV series ‘Ash Vs Evil Dead’ has been released online, following its premiere at San Diego Comic Con.

The series reunites writer-director Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert with actor/co-producer Bruce Campbell in his iconic role as deadite-fighting hardware store clerk Ashley J Williams - but, as the trailer makes clear, time has taken its toll on the one-time ladykiller.

Watch the trailer below - be warned it is NSFW and not for children, as there’s quite a lot of gore and some swearing.

Here’s what we know about ‘Ash Vs Evil Dead:’ it’s going to be ten episodes - which, unusually for live action nowadays, will each be 30 minutes long - written by Sam and Ivan Raimi, with the ‘Evil Dead’ trilogy director behind the camera on the first episode. And, as we see in the trailer, Campbell’s sometime co-star Lucy Lawless of ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ takes a key supporting role.

It has also been suggested that ‘Army of Darkness,’ 1992′s comparatively family-friendly third film, will not be referenced in the series - and there would seem to be some weight to this, given that the trailer features clips from the first two ‘Evil Dead’ films but not the third.

Catching up with Ash decades after his first battle with the Deadites, we find he’s still a shop boy, but - what with the corset, and the need for more cardio - not quite the lithe specimen he was in his younger years.

Even so, with his chainsaw and ‘boomstick’ still at the ready - and, intriguingly, the suggestion that he’s had the Necronomicon itself under lock and key all these years - it’s clear that Ash has been expecting the Deadites to return.

Some fans of the original film, not to mention the 2013 reboot, might be a little dismayed to see how heavily this trailer leans on comedy - but humour has always been a key weapon in ‘Evil Dead’s arsenal.

Along with this trailer came an announcement from Sam Raimi of plans for a further 'Evil Dead’ movie combining the worlds of the original trilogy and the 2013 reboot:

“After working with Fede Alvarez, who did a terrific job on the Evil Dead remake… we loved that movie and we’re thinking we should do a team-up eventually of his great heroine and our hero for a joint-'Evil Dead’ reality.”

‘Ash Vs Evil Dead’ begins its run on US network Starz this Halloween - no word yet on when or where we can expect to see it in the UK.
