In a startling case of mistaken identity, it appears that a grandmother in Brazil has been praying on a daily basis for several years to a figurine she believes to be Saint Anthony.

The only thing is, it’s not Saint Anthony hearing her prayers.

It’s Elrond, Lord of Rivendell, from ‘Lord of the Rings’.

Make-up artist Gabriela Brandao from Florianópolis, Brazil, dropped these pictures on Facebook last week, and they’ve since gone a bit viral.

“The great-grandmother of my daughter prays to this St. Anthony every day,” she writes on the first picture post.

“But look more closely…”

She then posts a picture of the same figure for sale on eBay for $8.43, a pretty reasonable price for a saint.

It was reportedly not easy to tell her that she’d been praying to an elf, albeit quite an important one.

“We tried to explain right away but she didn’t understand at first,” Brandao told Buzzfeed.

“The next day we explained again and she understood and we got her a new figure of Saint Anthony.”

We’re sure that Hugo Weaving is most flattered by the attention.
