The Great British Bake Off series 14 spoilers follow.
Tonight's (November 7) Great British Bake Off was a tough one, as viewers said goodbye to Saku following a difficult Dessert Week.
With just six bakers remaining, tonight's episode kicked off with the Signature challenge, where bakers were asked to make a batch of eight creme caramels — set custard desserts with a caramel sauce.
Matty faced delays after his caramel crystallised on two attempts, but judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith praised the finished product. Prue described Dan's desserts as "very nearly perfect", while Cristy's failed to impress due to over-baking.
The Technical challenge, set by Paul, was next. Bakers were told to create six individual orange and ginger treacle puddings.
Struggling with cooking time, almost all of the bakers produced runny and raw puddings, leaving the tent in fits of laughter amplified after Tasha accidentally served her puddings in a rude shape.
At judging, a shocked Paul and Prue called all of the bakes "inedible" — apart from Tasha's. Matty came last in the Technical, and Tasha came first, with Paul saying: "Not as terrible, but pretty terrible, but at least it was edible."
For the Showstopper, bakers were given four hours to create elaborate meringue bombes. Saku and Cristy's meringue bombes underwhelmed Prue and Paul. "Looks like the bombe's already gone off," Paul said of Cristy's bombe.
After the bakers presented their bombes, co-host Alison Hammond announced Dan as Star Baker. "It filled me with loads of confidence. I'm super happy," he said of taking home the title.
Sadly, it was then up to co-host Noel Fielding to reveal that Saku would be leaving the tent.
"I'm so proud of myself," she said of her time on Bake Off. "I don't miss baking, but I will miss them [the fellow bakers]. It's really sad to leave them. It's a privilege to be a part of this lovely family."
The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Bake Off: An Extra Slice both air on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
