It looks as though ‘Green Lantern Corps’ may soon have a script…

According to Deadline, the upcoming ‘Green Lantern Corps’ movie has found its writers… and one of them will be very familiar to DC comic book movie fans.

“Warner Bros and DC are moving aggressively on a new screen version of Green Lantern,” they revealed. “They’ve set David Goyer to write the script with Justin Rhodes for Green Lantern Corps, with Goyer producing and with DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg exec producing.”

Of course, David S. Goyer is a big name when it comes to DC movies.

He previously wrote ‘Man of Steel’ which kicked off DC’s cinematic universe, followed by penning the recent superhero epic, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’. He also created the upcoming TV tie-in, ‘Krypton’.

So what’s the movie all about?

It looks as though we have some idea of that, too.

“The new version is described as Lethal Weapon in space, and it’s based on a comic book origin story,” they reveal. “The focus will be on two characters: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The latter is an African American Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps and the story very much focuses on his relationship with Jordan and the Corps.”

Now, this is something we’ve heard for a long time – that the ‘Green Lantern’ movie would not focus on a single Green lantern. And this sounds like a rather unique way to go, bringing two classic versions of the comic book hero to the big screen simultaneously.

And it could be awesome… depending on the actors.

“It’s unclear whether the studio would reengage with Ryan Reynolds, who starred in the disappointing first film and is soaring with Deadpool and working on its sequel.”

Hang on… are you kidding me?

This is the same Ryan Reynolds who frequently jokes about how ‘Green Lantern’ killed his career. The same actor who took pot shots at his CGI Green Lantern suit in the ‘Deadpool’ movie itself.

No. You can bet your ass he won’t be back.

Still, it sounds as though Warner Bros. has an interesting concept for ‘Green Lantern Corps’ and it could prove to be the surprise hit DC has been longing for. Who will they get to play Hal Jordan and John Stewart? For now, we have to wait and see.

‘Green Lantern Corps’ heads to cinemas on 24 July 2020.
