Gremlins star Zach Galligan has reunited with Gizmo for the first time in 31 years, and unfortunately for him, it looks like he's still not able to make the mischievous Mogwai behave.
As part of a new marketing campaign, Mountain Dew drafted in the actor, who played Billy Peltzer in comedy-horror film Gremlins and its 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch, to help promote the brand's new Zero Sugar soda.
In the ad, the pair are chilling in front of the TV together when Gizmo asks to take a sip of the soft drink in front of Billy.
"It is tasty... be careful," the human says, before handing his fluffy friend the bottle.
As expected though, Gizmo isn't careful at all, and spills the liquid all over himself, causing fur balls to fly out of his back. At that same moment, Billy's daughter and her own Mogwai walk into the room, and upon seeing what's just happened, roll their eyes.
Released in 1984, the original movie sees Billy receive a cute-but-strange little creature as a pet, which inadvertently spawns other beasties when he accidentally spills water on it. Later, Billy learns the hard way that the most important Mogwai rule of all is that you should never feed them after midnight – or they'll transform into small, destructive, evil monsters and wreak havoc all over town.
Galligan took to Twitter at the weekend to tease the arrival of the TV spot, suggesting that today (February 15) shall be known from now on as #MogwaiMonday, despite not being able to reveal exactly what was going to be released.
"Until then, sing along," he encouraged his fans. "Reunited, and it feels so good. Reunited 'cause we understood. There's one perfect fit, and, sugar, this one is it. We both are so excited 'cause we're reunited."
Later, he confirmed that Howie Mandel reprised the voice of Gizmo in the video.
